First Night At the Falls – AMAZING

Yours Turly @ The Falls

The Falls came and went, but what a memorable night it was! First I want to say thanks to The Falls, SA Roller Derby, Landon, and everyone that came out (for me or the fundraiser)! It was absolutely incredible and I hope folks that came by the Martini Lounge (where I was mixing it up) enjoyed themselves!

I did such a good job (I think?) that Jenni even invented a new fist-bump handshake. The jellyfish. Folks really dug Greyhound (of course) but also got pretty into it when I played Zedd’s rendition of the Legend of Zelda. Had a compliment from the bartender too as apparently she likes progressive house (the core of my set) and that doesn’t get played often enough for her taste I would guess. Anyways it was good times!

By the way, sorry to the folks that wanted Tejano and Rap. That’s not what I do, but they had that going in the other room, so hopefully you were covered.

Playing at the Falls, May 19th

On May 19th, I will be playing at The Falls for a benefit show to raise money for the San Antonio Roller Derby. It all starts at 9pm and there will be live bands as well as the in-house DJ playing. I will go on at 10pm in The Martini Lounge. Hope to see you there! If you want to buy tickets ahead of time you can do so here. You can also pay at the door, but be sure to mention that it’s for SARD so that the money goes to them.

Hope to see you there!

Hosting Sets on MixCloud

How did I not know about this!? I am probably the last DJ to know about this but MixCloud is a free service for hosting and listening to DJ mixes. Unlike other avenues, it has licenses to allow the sharing of DJ sets in a more legal manner. Outside of DJing, I’m also a music and member of a band called Victim Cache. My opinion on the matter is that, if someone is helping distribute your music, then they should serve thanks instead of a subpoena. But sadly the big label behemoths think differently. Either way, MixCloud seems to help solve that conundrum and something I greatly appreciate! As both a DJ and listener, MixCloud seems incredibly awesome!

As a result, I will be posting all my sets from here on our on MixCloud and moving over my previous sets as I have the time. Lately I have been focused more on Victim Cache as we have been working on some very cool things in regards to the completion of our first album as well as the starting of the next. But I hope to start continuing work on more demos and some longer sets here very soon! And with the help of MixCloud, I can now bring it to more people in a better (and more legal) way!

Happy Hardcore Set?

A friend of mine really into Happy Vocal Hardcore asked me to see if I could put together a set of it. So, Challenge Accepted! As I am fairly focused on getting my demo sets out and doing some marketing first, I thought I would post this as a bit of a reminder not to forget to do it :)

That and it is going to take me a little while as I basically have no Happy Vocal Hardcore songs in my library, being more of a vocal trance / progressive style DJ. But hey, always good to branch out and try new things, right!?

Added a Vocal Trance Demo

Spent the evening recording out my Vocal Trance demo-set. I turned out rather well and was the product of some improvisation and last minute tweaks, which is good since the demo-sets really are meant to embody my live DJing style as opposed to how well I can make a studio set.

To that end, the set was not flawless so I may go back and do it over to smooth things out and get in some extra practice. I am torn between doing that now or working on a deep house or dub-step (not to be confused with brostep) set first and going back to fix things later.

Either way, it turned out to be a solid set and one that embodied my vocal trance preferences almost perfectly. You can find this, and other demo-sets on my demos page.

GSO #1

GSO #1 is a mix I made while up on-site at my day job for some friends there. Big thanks to Landon for doing some more voice-overs for the new show name (The Swell). They turned out rather awesome, though I think I need to work on the musical part of the intro a bit. This is also the first set using my new (for me) Reloop Digital Jockey 2. Worked out well but now I have an even bigger desire to get some turntables and do it up old-skewl with vinyl! ;)

Landon’s Mix

For Landon’s birfday and the Mega LAN last week, he asked me to make a DJ Mix for him and it turned out really well! It’s not flawless (I made 2 or 3 small oopsies) but it still ranks among my top 5, maybe top 3 of all my DJ Mixes (in my opinion of course). Most of my mixes I broadcast on our internal radio station at work but since this one is special I thought I would share.

  1. Carl Sagan – Glorious Dawn (ft Stephen Hawking) – Colorpulse
  2. Mellow feat. Terri Pace (Original Mix) – Netsky
  3. Bad Red (Original Mix) – Culture Shock
  4. The Fountain (feat. Steven Wilson) – Pendulum

If you like these songs, please show your support for the artists involved by checking out their music. I have provided links above to the common places to get music. Most of electronic songs I purchased from BeatPort and highly recommend them if you are interested in getting the DJ tracks suitable for making your own mixes. Plus, they offer WAV downloads for the audiophiles (such as myself). The exception was Pendulum – I bought the album straight from their website. The album is fantastic so I recommend grabbing the whole thing.
